Falling down a flight of steps in 1908 and injuring himself, Marquis M. Converse, came up with the idea of a rubber soled shoe to prevent slipping. Thus the Converse Company was born; producing 4,000 shoes daily and, after just five years, started manufacturing tennis shoes. It wasn’t until 1921 when Charles H. "Chuck" Taylor joined the ranks as ambassador and salesman of the brand that popularity of Converse shoes rose to new heights. In 1923 his signature was added to the All Star label. Converse make shoes for creative individuals everywhere who live optimistically and rebelliously in the worlds of music, art, sport and fashion.
